Motion design studios for startups

Six studios, checked . We're one of them, listed alphabetically like the rest.

DirectoryBy Sakina Safdari

A motion design studio animates your product and brand: launch videos, product explainers, interface animation and the small moves that make a website feel finished. Where the studios below publish a price, seed-stage packages start at $3,500 (Magic Motion Studio) and Vidico says a SaaS explainer usually costs $8,000 to $15,000.

Launch is in three weeks. The product is real, but the homepage is a screenshot. Someone says it needs a video. Nobody has written a script, and the product will look different by the time the video is done. Motion earns its cost when it explains something a still can't. If it doesn't, spend the money on the page.

We do motion too, so this list isn't ranked. Studios are in alphabetical order, us included, and nobody paid to be on it.

How we picked

A studio made the list if:

  • motion graphics, animation or product video is a listed service on its own site
  • it works with startups, or names venture-backed or SaaS clients
  • it says how you buy: a package, a subscription or a quote
  • it's a studio, not a solo freelancer or a marketplace

We left out freelancers on marketplaces and studios whose own site doesn't say they work with startups or venture-backed companies. Prices, ratings and client names come from each studio's own site or Clutch profile.

The six studios at a glance

Two of the six publish a price: Magic Motion Studio and Vidico. GRAFIT sets a $25,000+ minimum on Clutch. AGFX Studio, Represent Studio and Hexcode publish no price.

Figures from each studio's own site or Clutch profile, checked . "/mo" is a monthly fee. "Clutch minimum" is the minimum project size a studio sets on Clutch, not a quote. Where a rating says "per its site", the studio states it and we haven't checked it on Clutch. Named clients are ones the studio names on its own site.

Notes on each studio

AGFX Studio

A team in Mohali, India. Its site lists explainer, product, UI walkthrough, demo and brand videos, plus motion graphics and UI/UX design, and says most projects take 3 to 6 weeks. It publishes no price, only a price predictor quiz. Its FAQ says it works with startups, SaaS products and businesses, and it lists SaaS, AI and fintech among its sectors. It says it has delivered 850+ videos. We couldn't confirm which Clutch profile is its own, so its rating is not checked.

Good fit if: you need a product explainer or UI walkthrough and can plan for 3 to 6 weeks.
Not a fit if: you want a published price or a Clutch rating to compare.

GRAFIT

A Warsaw agency, and a Webflow Enterprise Partner by its own site. Motion design and product video sit beside web design, branding and development on its list of services. It says its clients are backed by First Round, Sequoia and Y Combinator. It publishes no price. Clutch shows 5.0 from 28 reviews, a $25,000+ minimum project size and $100 to $149 an hour.

Good fit if: you want product video designed with your site, by a studio that builds in Webflow.
Not a fit if: your budget is well under its $25,000+ Clutch minimum.

Hexcode (us)

A 15-person studio in Indore, founded in 2020, with US overlap until 1pm PT. Motion is part of our brand and website work, not a stand-alone service: logo animation, illustration and the small moves in a site or product. Our clients page tags LlamaIndex, Portless and Fuel Cycle as motion clients. We don't publish a price and have no Clutch reviews yet. Read the Portless case study

Good fit if: you want motion that lives in your brand and website, from the team building them.
Not a fit if: you need a long explainer film, live action or a launch video on its own.

Magic Motion Studio

Its page is headed startup explainer video studio and names New York, with USA and Australia in its contact section and no single headquarters. It prices by stage: seed-stage packages with custom character design start at $3,500 for up to 120 seconds, and Series A packages with source files start at $7,000. It says delivery takes 14 business days, though its process section says 3 to 4 weeks, so confirm before you plan a launch. Its site shows 5.0 from 8 reviews on Upwork, not Clutch.

Good fit if: you want a 2D explainer at a stated price and your stage matches one of its packages.
Not a fit if: you need source files at the seed-stage price.

Represent Studio

A video studio that lists launch videos, customer testimonials, tutorials and long-form YouTube video, with motion graphics as one of its formats at 60 to 120 seconds. Its site says it works with YC startups on Demo Day and B2B SaaS companies. It publishes no price or timeline and states no headquarters, though its footer links a San Francisco video production page. We found no Clutch profile, and its site shows no rating or review count.

Good fit if: you're launching on a fixed date, such as Demo Day, and want a founder-led or motion graphics launch video.
Not a fit if: you need a price and a timeline before the first call.

Vidico

Offices in Melbourne, Sydney and New York, per its site. It has a page for startups, and its FAQ says SaaS explainers usually cost $8,000 to $15,000 for 60 to 90 seconds, a simple 2D animation about $5,000, and monthly plans start at $5,000. First-time clients get a free script. Clutch shows 4.9 from 58 reviews, a $5,000+ minimum project size and $100 to $149 an hour, while its homepage says 100+ reviews, so ask which sites they are on.

Good fit if: you want a SaaS explainer at a published price, or a monthly plan for ongoing video.
Not a fit if: your budget is under about $5,000.

Do you need a video, or motion in your site and product?

Pick the kind first, because the studios split by it. A launch or explainer video is a finished film. Motion in your site and product is a set of small moves your team keeps using. AGFX Studio, Magic Motion Studio, Represent Studio and Vidico lead with video, while GRAFIT and Hexcode put motion beside web and brand work.

Do you need a video, or motion in your site and product?
What you needWhat fitsWatch for
A launch film for a dateA video studio with a script and a delivery dateA timeline that slips past the launch
To explain a complex productA 60 to 90 second animated explainerA script about features, not the problem
A site and product that feel finishedMotion designed with the website and brandAnimation that slows the page
A video every monthA subscription or retainerPaying monthly with nothing to ship

Six questions to ask before you sign

  1. Who writes the script, and is it in the price?
  2. How many revision rounds does the price cover, and what does another round cost?
  3. Do I get the source files, and in which package?
  4. How long from brief to final video, and what happens if we miss the launch date?
  5. Can you animate from our real product screens, not stock ones?
  6. Can I speak to a founder at my stage who used you?

Questions

How much does a startup explainer video cost?

Published figures on this list start at $3,500 for Magic Motion Studio's seed-stage package, up to 120 seconds. Vidico says most SaaS explainers cost $8,000 to $15,000 for 60 to 90 seconds, and a simple 2D animation about $5,000. Magic Motion Studio's Series A packages start at $7,000, and GRAFIT sets a $25,000+ minimum on Clutch.

How long does a motion design project take?

Published timelines run from 14 business days to 6 weeks. AGFX Studio says most projects take 3 to 6 weeks, and Magic Motion Studio says 14 business days, though its process section says 3 to 4 weeks.

Do I need a video, or is motion in the website enough?

Motion in the site is enough if your product is easy to explain in a headline. A video earns its cost when it isn't. GRAFIT and Hexcode put motion next to web and brand work, while Represent Studio, Magic Motion Studio and Vidico lead with video.

Can I pay for motion monthly?

Yes, one studio here says so. Vidico's plans start at $5,000 a month with all creative services included and unused budget rolling over.

Do I get the source files?

Not always. Magic Motion Studio includes source files in its Series A packages from $7,000 but lists them for enterprise packages only, not its seed-stage ones. Ask every studio what you own before you sign.

Why isn't this list ranked?

Because we're on it. Ranking a list we compete in would tell you more about us than about the studios. So it's alphabetical, with the facts we could check.

Need a video, or just a better homepage?

Thirty minutes, no deck. Tell us the launch date and what you're trying to explain, and we'll tell you whether motion is worth the money, even if the answer is one of the other five.
