An embedded design partner is a senior designer, or a small pod, that joins your Slack and standups and works off your priorities each week. You get the output of a design team without adding headcount, and you can stop when you don’t need it.
Your first senior designer takes three to six months to hire. The onboarding flow needs fixing by Thursday. Those two facts don't get along.
We sell this model, so we didn't rank the list. Studios are in alphabetical order, us included, and nobody paid to be on it.
How we picked
A studio made the list if its own site says it:
- sells an ongoing engagement, not only fixed-scope projects
- works inside your tools (Slack, standups, your Figma or Linear)
- is built for startups
- is a studio, not a solo freelancer or a talent marketplace
We left out design subscriptions that run on a request queue, fractional-talent marketplaces, and agencies built for mid-size companies. Prices, Clutch numbers and client names come from each studio's own site or Clutch profile.
The five studios at a glance
Two of the five publish a price. The rest quote after a call, us included.

Notes on each studio
Denovers
Founded in 2020, focused on B2B SaaS, AI and data-heavy products. Its longest embed ran 24 months with HoneyBricks, through HoneyBricks' acquisition by EquityMultiple. Every engagement starts with a 7-day trial sprint.
Good fit if: your product is dashboard-heavy and you want design and frontend from the same pod.
Foundey
The only studio here that prices by the week. The $7,000 Growth tier adds a lead designer, research, and brand and web work on top of the embedded designer. It says it has worked with 170+ venture-backed companies, and names two YC clients with their batches.
Good fit if: you want a two-week trial before you commit to anything monthly.
Hexcode (us)
Founded in 2020, 15 people, based in Indore with overlap until 1pm PT. One pod covers brand, website, product design and development, so the team that ships your marketing site can also ship the product. We don't publish a price and have no Clutch reviews yet, so you're judging us on the work and on references we'll connect you with. See how we work
Good fit if: you need brand, site and product from one team.
Not a fit if: you need a designer online through your whole US afternoon.
Lived In Design
A flat $10,000 a month buys a senior designer and a PM together. It's the only studio here that bundles product management. It focuses on product design for B2B AI SaaS and keeps a small client roster on purpose.
Good fit if: your bottleneck is deciding what to build, not just designing it.
Parallel
Split between Austin and Bangalore, so both US coasts get working-hours overlap. Focused on product UX and interfaces for AI and B2B SaaS. Rated 4.8 on Clutch.
Good fit if: you want an India cost base with a US-side presence.
Is an embedded partner the right call?
It depends on how your design work arrives. Steady and changing weekly points to embedded. One defined launch points to a project.
| Option | How work arrives | Who you talk to | Commitment | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Embedded partner | Weekly priorities in your Slack and standups | The designers doing the work | Monthly, usually cancellable | The roadmap keeps moving and nobody owns design yet |
| Design subscription | Requests in a queue or portal | Whoever picks up the ticket | Monthly | You have a steady list of small, well-defined tasks |
| Project agency | A scoped brief with milestones | Often an account manager | One project | You know exactly what you need built, once |
| Full-time hire | Whatever you hand them | Your employee | Salary, equity, months to hire | Design is core enough to own forever |
We wrote the longer version of this in Design subscription, agency or embedded partner?
Six questions to ask before you sign
- Who exactly will be in my Slack, and will it be the same people in month three?
- How many hours or seats does the monthly fee buy?
- How many of my working hours overlap with yours?
- Do you build what you design, or hand off to my engineers?
- What's the notice period, and do I keep every file when we stop?
- Can I talk to a client who has stayed with you for six months or more?
The last one matters most. Anyone can win a first project. A client who stays is the real review.
Questions
What is an embedded design partner?
A design studio that works inside your team instead of beside it. Its designers join your Slack and standups, take weekly priorities from you, and ship into your Figma, without becoming employees.
How much does an embedded design partner cost?
Of the five studios here, two publish prices. Foundey starts at $2,000 a week for a sprint or $7,000 a month for its Growth tier. Lived In Design charges $10,000 a month for a designer and a PM. The other three quote after a call.
How is it different from a design subscription?
A subscription runs on a request queue, and whoever is free picks up your ticket. An embedded partner gives you the same people every week, in your own channels, working from your roadmap rather than a list of tasks.
How fast can one start?
Usually within days. Denovers opens with a 7-day trial sprint, Foundey with a 2-week pilot, and Lived In Design says it's embedded within the first week.
When shouldn't I use one?
When design is so central to your product that you need someone owning it full time, forever. Or when you have one clearly scoped launch, where a fixed project is simpler.
Why isn't this list ranked?
Because we're on it. Ranking a list we compete in would tell you more about us than about the studios. So it's alphabetical, with the facts we could check.
